Put down the glass!

This is an especially interesting article in regards to a discussions on freedom, and smoke screens I was having in one of my MA classes last week.

Use the topic of health policy as a smoke screen to other issues, and reducing freedom by showing it as ' for our health'

Surely we should be FREE to buy alcohol and deal with the consequences

Perhaps we need to look at how human society can weaken itself by going against survival of the fittest? Not a very politically correct approach but one to be considered?

Is this really addressing the problem? I'm pretty sure my basic understanding of psychology is that most people abuse alcohol, drugs or food not because its cheap.....but because of emotional and societal problems and that's what should be dealt with?

Just struck me as interesting.

(Not to mention what is the definition of abuse? Remembering that many of the historical societies we consider great 'abused' one form of substance or another.)
